Zeiss Planar T* Manual Focus 85mm f/1.4 ZE Telephoto Lens for Canon EOS
The Zeiss elephoto 85mm f/1.4 ZE Planar T* Manual Focus Lens is a short telephoto sporting a classic portrait focal length which is further enhanced by the long barrel rotation for precise control of the focus point in the image. The Planar T* 1.4/85 is optimized for medium to longer distances and provides distortion-free performance, which only improves as the lens is stopped down. The fast f/1.4 aperture is very useful for creatively controlling the depth of field and the nearly circular diaphragm creates a pleasing 'bokeh' in the out-of-focus areas. Combined with a DSLR with a 1.5 crop factor, the lens becomes a focal length of 128 mm.
ZE Lenses
Zeiss ZE lenses are built with a EF bayonet for Canon EOS cameras. The manually focusable ZE lenses (for EF mount) feature electronic shutter control and additional electronic contacts to the camera. All existing exposure programs (P, AV, TV, M) and the AF confirmation function of the camera are supported; lens information (focal length and speed) is passed on to the camera. Certain functions that require the use of AF lenses (various scene modes, A-DEP) are partially unavailable. ZE lenses are compatible with the EOS camera bodies listed here, and further cameras with EF mount (e.g. cameras for cinematography). When using adapters with electronic contacts on cameras with a different mount (e.g. mirrorless system cameras, cine cameras), we cannot guarantee for the compatibility and functionality of ZE lenses.
Planar Design
Zeiss Planar lenses incorporate a symmetrical design. Designed to be anastigmatic, it got its name based on the image plane which was almost perfectly plane rather than spherical.
Manual Focus
Manual focusing means you have all the control at the end of your fingers. ZEISS lenses feature a specially designed ergonomic construction that is noticeable at first touch. The large rotation angle of this lens guarantees precise focusing. The mechanism moves super smoothly and without extra play, furthering the intuitive interaction along the focal plane.
Advanced Aperture Design
With ZEISS lenses you can create stunning Bokeh effects, thanks to the finely tuned features of ZEISS SLR lenses. By keeping the background intentionally blurred, additional focus is created on the subject of an image. The uniquely engineered diaphragm blades of this lens, along with the virtually circular aperture, deliver stunning renditions of highlights the back and foreground.
Anti-Reflective Coating
The Zeiss anti-reflective coating is an optical design feature which ensures superior clarity and image brilliance, even in poor or unfavorable lighting conditions. Zeiss applies the anti-reflective coating to the lens surface by the steam depositions of incredibly thin, transparent layers on the glass. In this process, special substances are turned to evaporate with extremely high energy in a high-vacuum environment and are subsequently deposited on the glass surfaces, one after another, as layers with precisely controlled thicknesses to achieve the desired reduction of reflective properties.
