This is Nikon's newest and most powerful engine ever. Faster than the previous version, it can handle complex auto focus and auto exposure calculations. It also separately processes dual-streamed data from the stacked image sensor.

Nikon designed a new type of latching door with two matched slots optimized for high-performance CFexpress Type B cards. Since the slots are independent from each other, you can use cards with different write speeds, including XQD cards. Z 9 's electronic shutter features minimal rolling-shutter distortion, eliminating the need for a mechanical shutter. With this, you can shoot at shutter speeds up to 1/32,000 seconds in silence with no shutter vibration or shutter wear. Silent mode lets you turn off menu sounds, VR Lock, and lessens lens drive noises.

The Z 9 has a body design that dissipates heat, allowing you to records lush 10-bit 8K UHD video at 24, 25 or 30 fps internally for over 2 hours straight. The Z 9 also records dense 10-bit 4K UHD footage in-camera with full pixel readout from the Z 9’s outstanding sensor at 24, 25, 30p as ProRes 422 HQ or H.265 video.
